Gran Canaria Airport (officially Aeropuerto de Gran Canaria, IATA code LPA) sits on the east coast of the island, roughly midway between the capital Las Palmas in the north and the main tourist resorts in the south. Getting from the airport to your resort is straightforward once you know your options.

Where is Gran Canaria Airport?

The airport is located near the town of Gando, on the east coast. It is approximately 25–30 km from Maspalomas and Playa del Inglés (around 25–35 minutes by road in normal traffic), 30–35 km from Puerto Rico (around 35–45 minutes), and 40 km from Puerto de Mogán (around 45–55 minutes).

Option 1: Pre-Booked Private Transfer

A pre-booked private airport transfer is the most comfortable and stress-free option, particularly if you are travelling with a family, have a lot of luggage, or arrive late at night. Your driver meets you in the arrivals hall with a name board and takes you directly to your accommodation. Cost: a private transfer to the Maspalomas area typically costs between €25 and €45 for a standard vehicle.

Option 2: Taxi from the Airport

Taxis are available immediately outside the arrivals terminal and operate on official metered fares. Approximate taxi fares: to Maspalomas or Playa del Inglés approximately €35–€45; to Puerto Rico approximately €45–€55; to Puerto de Mogán approximately €55–€65.

Option 3: Public Bus (Guagua)

Gran Canaria's public bus network, known locally as guaguas and operated by Global, is reliable and very affordable. The key route for most visitors is the 66, which runs from the airport to the Maspalomas and Playa del Inglés area. The journey takes approximately 50–60 minutes. Bus fare: typically under €5.

Option 4: Hire Car from the Airport

Picking up a hire car at the airport is a popular choice for visitors who want maximum flexibility for their stay. All major car hire companies have desks in the arrivals hall. The GC-1 motorway connects the airport directly to the south coast and is easy to drive.

Option 5: Coach Transfer (Package Holiday)

If you are travelling on a package holiday booked through a UK tour operator, a coach transfer from the airport to your hotel is almost certainly included or available to purchase. A journey that takes 30 minutes by taxi may take 90 minutes or more by coach.

Tips for a Smooth Arrival

Book in advance for private transfers. Have your destination address ready. Late-night arrivals: a private transfer or taxi is the most reliable option as bus services are reduced after around 10pm.
